Fisherman Kenny Bain Established our Farm in 1981 and over the next 27 years steadily expanded the business to a size of over 200000 oysters. Our main markets over that time where local and as part of a cooperative selling to the supermarkets.
In 2008, Paul McGlynn (Kenny's son in law) took over the day to day running of the farm and increased the site capacity to just under 2 million oysters. With the aim of increasing production to the cooperative.
In 2011 a form of vibrio when through all adult oysters and killed over 1.5 million This was a desperate time for the business and we did think at one stage of closing our doors. But with grit and determination Paul decided to open a farm shop, and small visitor area in our shed. With the aim off educating visitors to the oyster process and offer fresh local produce. That same year we also came away from the cooperative.
Paul opened the Oyster Farm Shop in April 2012 with a counter and small table selling oysters, shellfish and smoked salmon.
For the 2013 season we purchased new fridges and freezers to display all the wonderful local and further afield produce we added to our stock.
